The blip of winter

These last few months really felt like a blip. My last entry was in the fall and this weekend we are already changing the clock, heading into spring. All this time I had the excuse of working full-time, but now I am retired with more time at home. It feels rather luxurious, only having to tend to domestic affairs, and, of course to our guests.
The outside is beckoning with trees, flowers and bushes blooming and birds returning. Sitting in the sunshine on the rocks along the shore, summer seems but a few weeks away. I can't wait to start swimming again!
Fall Pleasures
Taking the bus to town
During the summer holidays I have made it a habit to go to town once a week to do errands. Riding a public bus is out of the question for some people or just boring and slow for others. On my bus ride today I had some time for myself, looking out the bus window, up into the sky where white clouds where slowly changing their shapes and I appreciated the fact that I was driven to my destination while I could daydream, oblivious to the traffic around us. It actually felt luxurious. Later on another bus I met some Bowen Islanders I had not seen in a while and a group of German tourists who were off to explore English Bay and Stanley Park. When I return to work, trips to town will again become quick and task oriented affairs where I usually fall asleep on the bus!
Salmon Berries
I really needed to stretch my legs this evening and decided to walk to the meadow in Crippen Park, with bucket in hand, hoping to find a good crop of salmon berries. Bushes all along the trails bear fruit, but the berries are nothing like the ones in the small meadow. Wading waist deep through lush, bright green horsetails, I filled my bucket with the biggest, juciest berries in all shades of yellow and red. Maybe tomorrow I'll make a fruit flan with salmon berries.
